I am an experienced writer of funding applications for Arts Council England (ACE). I have also worked for ACE as an external assessor, which involved writing appraisals for funding applications and participating in funding decision panels. This experience on both sides of the application process has given me a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the funding system. Importantly, ACE acknowledges that some people may face barriers to applying for a grant or accessing their services. If you experience or expect any barrier with making your application you can apply for an access support worker. ACE will pay me to help support you with your application. There is no cost to you if you qualify for access support. Please get in touch with me to discuss how I can help. |
ACE currently offer two funding strands:
Developing your Creative Practice (DYCP) is a fund for individual creative or cultural practitioners who want to take their work in a new direction.
You can apply for £2K-£12K. Round 21 of DYCP opens for applications on 25 July 2024 and closes 22 August 2024.
National Lottery Project Grants (NLPG) is a fund for individuals or organisations who need funding for a specific project.
You can apply for under £30K for smaller projects, or over £30K for larger projects.
If you are an artist with a learning disability, or you are neurodivergent, or you are involved in the mental health system, ACE can pay for an access support worker to guide you through the application process.
If you cannot use the online application system, Grantium, or cannot physically use a computer, ACE can pay for an access support worker to help you to use it.
I can work with you to fill in an offline version of the application form. Then when the application is ready I can fill in the online application form on Grantium for you.
Please note that as an access support worker, my role is to remove barriers for someone applying to the Arts Council for funding or using their services. What this entails must be tailored to the person I am supporting – there is no one size fits all approach. I work in a person-led way that is informed by and tailored to the needs and working style of the person I am supporting.
Here are a few examples of what my support work can include:
- Note taking and interpreting ideas to write up answers
- Helping process the application questions and forms
- Helping the applicant navigate Grantium
- Signposting to other resources or asking ACE for additional support
ACE cannot pay for:
- Translation from other languages into English
- Costs related to caring responsibilities
- Costs covered by Access to Work or other sources
- Developing a project e.g. the services of a bid writer or development consultant
For the avoidance of doubt, access support work is not bid-writing and should not be thought of as such. My responsibility is to assist the person I am supporting to articulate their idea and application form answers in their authentic voice.
If you do not qualify for free access support and would like me to help you develop, write, or provide feedback on an application, I can help you for a negotiated fee. Please get in touch with me to discuss.
